Smart Shooter Wins Up to $150 Million JIATF-401 Contract for SMASH Counter-Drone Systems

Smart Shooter has been awarded a 36-month, single-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract by the U.S. Department of War’s Joint Interagency Task Force 401 for its SMASH fire control systems. The contract carries a maximum ordering ceiling of up to $150 million and supports counter-UAS missions in the United States and overseas.

Under the agreement, Smart Shooter is the sole supplier of the SMASH counter-drone systems, training and related services covered by the contract. Individual delivery orders will determine the quantities, scope and timing of future deliveries.

SMASH Counter-Drone Systems Support Domestic Shield

The contract supports JIATF-401’s Domestic Shield Program as well as associated global operational missions.

The agreement addresses requirements including:

  • Counter-UAS operations
  • Force protection
  • Base defense
  • Domestic operations
  • Overseas missions

The contract’s scope includes hardware, software and software updates, training and support services.

The U.S. Department of War announced the award on September 29.

“Domestic Shield is about giving defenders the tools to stop small, fast-moving drones before they can harm forces, bases, and critical assets,” said Michal Mor, CEO and Co-Founder of Smart Shooter.

“This award, and the framework it provides for future orders of up to $150 million, marks a significant milestone in the expansion of our activity in the U.S. defense market.”

SMASH Combines AI and Computer Vision

Smart Shooter’s SMASH technology is a lightweight fire control system mounted to a rifle.

The system combines:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Computer vision
  • Target-tracking algorithms
  • Automated firing-solution calculations
  • Shot synchronization

SMASH tracks a target and calculates a firing solution before synchronizing shot release when the weapon is correctly aligned.

According to Smart Shooter, the technology provides individual soldiers with a kinetic counter-drone capability using their standard service weapon while preserving the weapon’s conventional use against ground targets.

Operator Retains Engagement Decision

The SMASH system assists with target tracking and firing but leaves the decision to engage with the operator.

The technology is also capable of connecting with external sensors and battle management systems.

This allows the rifle-mounted system to potentially operate as part of a broader counter-UAS architecture rather than solely as an independent system.

JIATF-401 Coordinates Counter-UAS Capabilities

JIATF-401 coordinates counter-UAS activities across the U.S. military and federal agencies while working with government and industry partners on evolving unmanned aircraft threats.

“JIATF-401 is continuously working with industry partners to provide the counter-UAS capabilities needed to protect warfighters and installations,” said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Matt Ross, director of JIATF-401.

“Our approach allows us to identify the right capabilities for specific operational requirements and rapidly deliver those capabilities to the warfighter.”

Contract Follows Earlier JIATF-401 Award

The new IDIQ follows an earlier Smart Shooter contract with JIATF-401 announced in March 2026.

Smart Shooter said it has also received new and follow-on awards during the past year supporting multiple U.S. military services, including:

  • U.S. Army
  • U.S. Navy
  • U.S. Air Force
  • U.S. Marine Corps

According to the company, thousands of SMASH systems are already deployed across U.S. military services.

SMASH Systems Deployed Internationally

The SMASH family is also deployed by defense and security forces outside the United States.

Smart Shooter identified current users in:

  • United States
  • Israel
  • United Kingdom
  • Germany
  • Other NATO and allied nations

The company maintains offices in Israel, the United States, Europe and Australia.

The 36-month JIATF-401 agreement creates a contracting framework for future orders of SMASH counter-drone systems, software, training and support with a maximum ordering ceiling of up to $150 million. Actual quantities and delivery values will depend on individual orders issued under the IDIQ.
