Peraso will showcase its 60 GHz mmWave wireless technology for drone, defense and tactical communications at the 11th Annual UAV Technology Conference in London. The company will demonstrate beamforming and RF technologies designed to provide high-speed, low-latency communications for unmanned aircraft operating in congested and contested electromagnetic environments.
Peraso CEO Ron Glibbery will also present on the use of 60 GHz drone communications for secure, high-capacity UAS connectivity during the September 21-22 conference.
60 GHz Drone Communications Target Congested Environments
As unmanned systems become more prevalent, Peraso said conventional sub-6 GHz communications technologies face increasing challenges from spectrum congestion, network interference, electronic jamming and the risk of detection.
The company’s mmWave technology instead uses 60 GHz spectrum and highly directional beamforming.
According to Peraso, the approach is designed to provide:
- High-speed wireless connectivity
- Low latency
- High data throughput
- Reduced interference
- Directional communications
- Flexible deployment
These characteristics are intended to support mission-critical drone and tactical communications.
Peraso CEO to Address High-Capacity UAS Connectivity
Glibbery will deliver a presentation titled “Directional by Design: How Peraso 60GHz mmWave Enables Secure, High-Capacity Drone Communications” on September 22 at 1:30 p.m. GMT.
The presentation will examine how the increasing pace and complexity of unmanned operations are placing additional demands on conventional wireless communications.
Topics will include:
- Directional wireless links
- Advanced beamforming
- Beam management
- Line-of-sight connectivity
- Identification friend or foe capabilities
- Low-SWaP system architectures
Peraso said these technologies can support communications in congested and contested environments where interference and electronic warfare may affect conventional links.
Directional Beamforming Supports Tactical Communications
Peraso’s 60 GHz technology uses phased-array beamforming to create directional communications links.
Rather than transmitting broadly across the surrounding environment, directional beamforming can focus wireless energy toward the intended connection.
Peraso is positioning this capability for applications requiring high-capacity communications with reduced interference.
The company has been developing high-performance mmWave phased-array technologies for more than a decade.
Its technology portfolio includes:
- Chipsets
- Wireless modules
- Software
- Intellectual property
- RF solutions
Peraso and iNTACT to Demonstrate Drone Technology
Peraso will exhibit with strategic partner iNTACT during the UAV Technology Conference.
The companies plan to display next-generation drone identification and communications capabilities designed for low detectability and increased resilience in dense electronic warfare environments.
Peraso said the demonstration will highlight applications of its advanced 60 GHz beamforming and RF technologies for defense and tactical communications.
mmWave Technology Supports Multiple Applications
Beyond unmanned aircraft, Peraso develops 60 GHz wireless technologies for several markets.
Applications include:
- Drone communications
- Defense and tactical communications
- Fixed wireless access
- Immersive video
- Industrial automation
The company’s technology is designed for applications requiring high throughput, low latency and flexible wireless deployment.
UAV Technology Conference Brings Defense and UAS Industry Together
The UAV Technology Conference is hosted by SAE Media Group and brings together defense organizations, military representatives, government personnel and technology providers focused on unmanned aerial systems.
Peraso will exhibit at booth 7 during the London event.
Following the UAV Technology Conference, the company plans to participate in the Counter UAS Homeland Security Europe conference on September 23-24 and DroneX on September 29-30, also in London.
Peraso’s UAV Technology Conference participation will focus on how 60 GHz drone communications, directional beamforming and mmWave connectivity can support high-capacity UAS links in environments where conventional wireless networks face congestion, interference and electronic warfare challenges.
