Drone Solutions International has received approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe to conduct Beyond Visual Line of Sight delivery operations using Kite Aero’s KITE uncrewed aircraft system. The authorization adds BVLOS delivery operations to the company’s operating specifications and clears the way for commercial KITE drone delivery Zimbabwe operations.
Drone Solutions plans to initially use the system for medical and pathology logistics, connecting regional healthcare facilities with central laboratories.
KITE Drone Delivery Zimbabwe Operations Receive CAAZ Approval
Drone Solutions spent approximately six months working with CAAZ and Air Traffic Services to obtain the authorization.
The approval process addressed multiple aspects of the planned operation, including:
- KITE aircraft
- Operating manuals
- Operational risk assessments
- Airspace integration procedures
- Flight planning
- Operational procedures
The process also included a live flight demonstration program conducted in August 2026.
“CAAZ set a high bar, and rightly so,” said Drone Solutions CEO Jeremiah Musabayana.
According to Musabayana, CAAZ and Air Traffic Services worked closely with Drone Solutions on operational and airspace management requirements.
Operational Data Supports KITE BVLOS Approval
Kite Aero supported the regulatory process with operational information collected through AXIOM, its drone operations management system.
According to Kite Aero, AXIOM has recorded:
- More than 41,000 autonomous flights
- More than 20,000 flight hours
The data comes from KITE operations conducted across Africa, Europe, the Pacific and the United States.
The operational record provided CAAZ with information about how the aircraft and supporting systems have performed during actual flight operations.
AXIOM Will Manage Commercial Drone Missions
AXIOM will continue to support KITE drone delivery Zimbabwe operations after commercial flights begin.
Drone Solutions pilots will use the platform to plan, authorize and operate KITE missions.
According to the source material, procedures accepted by CAAZ have been incorporated into the system, including:
- Operational risk assessment
- Flight planning
- Airspace coordination
AXIOM also tracks aircraft flight hours, battery cycles and maintenance information across the fleet.
The platform provides Drone Solutions and regulators with a centralized source of operational information.
Medical and Pathology Logistics Planned as First Use Case
Drone Solutions plans to begin commercial operations with medical and pathology logistics.
The initial application will connect regional health facilities with central laboratories, allowing medical samples and other critical supplies to be transported by air rather than relying entirely on road transportation.
The BVLOS authorization allows the aircraft to conduct these delivery operations beyond the visual line of sight of the remote pilot under the approved operational framework.
KITE Approved for BVLOS Operations in Multiple Jurisdictions
According to Kite Aero, KITE has been approved for BVLOS operations in 25 jurisdictions.
The company identified approved operations across:
- Africa
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Europe under EASA frameworks
- United States under FAA regulations
Zimbabwe now joins those jurisdictions following the CAAZ authorization.
Drone Solutions and Kite Aero Plan Regional Expansion
Drone Solutions and Kite Aero have also identified additional African markets for potential expansion.
Their plans cover:
- Zimbabwe
- Mozambique
- Malawi
- Democratic Republic of the Congo
The CAAZ approval provides the regulatory foundation for commercial KITE drone delivery Zimbabwe operations, beginning with medical and pathology logistics and supported by Kite Aero’s AXIOM flight operations management system.
