L2 Aviation and Gotonomi have announced a strategic partnership to develop integrated satellite connectivity solutions for unmanned aerial vehicle and Advanced Air Mobility operators across North America. The collaboration is focused on UAV connectivity beyond cellular networks, combining Gotonomi’s compact satellite communications technology with L2 Aviation’s aircraft integration, engineering and certification capabilities.
The companies plan to support command and control, telemetry, operational information and mission-critical data communications for aircraft operating where cellular, Wi-Fi and other terrestrial networks are limited or unavailable.
UAV Connectivity Beyond Cellular Networks
The partnership will combine Gotonomi’s lightweight UAV communications technology with access to Viasat’s Velaris ecosystem, a satellite communications service developed for UAV and Advanced Air Mobility operations.
L2 Aviation will provide the engineering and regulatory support required to incorporate the technology into customer aircraft and operating platforms.
Its responsibilities will include:
- Engineering
- System integration
- Installation
- Certification support
The companies said the partnership creates a coordinated path for UAV manufacturers, operators and mission-system providers seeking satellite-connected aircraft solutions.
Satellite Communications Support BVLOS Operations
The integrated technology is intended to provide resilient communications when aircraft operate beyond the practical reach of terrestrial networks.
Applications include:
- Command and control
- Aircraft telemetry
- Operational information
- Mission-critical data
According to the companies, satellite connectivity could support Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations by maintaining communications outside conventional cellular and other terrestrial coverage areas.
“UAV and Advanced Air Mobility platforms cannot reach their full operational potential when connectivity, aircraft integration, certification, and deployment are treated as separate challenges,” said Tony Bailey, President and Chief Operating Officer of L2 Aviation.
“This partnership brings those disciplines together through a complete, aircraft-level solution. Gotonomi’s leading-edge satellite communications technology, Viasat’s Velaris service, and L2 Aviation’s engineering and certification capabilities create an integrated path from system architecture and installation through regulatory approval and operational deployment.”
L2 Aviation Brings Certification and Integration Experience
L2 Aviation joined the Viasat Velaris ecosystem through Galaxy 1 Communications in May 2026.
The company brings nearly three decades of experience in avionics integration, certification and safety-critical aircraft modifications.
L2 Aviation said the partnership is intended to provide more than standalone communications hardware by addressing aircraft-level integration and certification requirements.
“Reliable connectivity is one of the fundamental requirements for expanding what unmanned aircraft can accomplish,” said Jeff Rex, CRO of L2 Aviation. “Our goal is to provide customers with more than another piece of hardware.”
“L2 can take the connectivity technology, integrate it with mission-critical systems, address the certification and installation requirements, and deliver a complete solution that leverages the heritage of decades of experience with safety certified satellite networks.”
Gotonomi Technology Targets Uncrewed Aircraft
Gotonomi develops compact satellite and cellular communications technology for unmanned and remotely piloted vehicles.
Its communications systems are designed around low size, weight and power requirements while supporting command and control, telemetry and mission data.
“Energy and infrastructure operators increasingly need aircraft that can remain connected well beyond the reach of traditional communications networks,” said Matthew Hill, General Manager at Gotonomi.
“Combining Gotonomi’s compact communications technology with L2 Aviation’s integration and certification experience creates a compelling pathway for operators looking to scale UAV missions into more demanding environments.”
Partnership Targets Energy, Government and Other Operations
L2 Aviation identified multiple industries where satellite-connected UAVs could be used to support operations across large, remote or difficult-to-access locations.
Potential markets include:
- Energy
- Government
- Infrastructure operations
- Other applications requiring remote aircraft connectivity
The L2 Aviation and Gotonomi partnership combines satellite communications, aircraft integration and certification capabilities to extend UAV connectivity beyond cellular networks and support BVLOS missions where conventional terrestrial communications are limited or unavailable.
