DroneShield Unveils RfRecon to Advance Counter-UAS RF Intelligence and Drone Detection

DroneShield has launched DroneShield RfRecon, a portable radio frequency intelligence system designed to help defense, government and security organizations detect, identify, locate and assess RF activity. Built on the company’s RfAI-3 intelligence architecture, the system combines wideband spectrum awareness, direction finding and AI-powered signal intelligence in a single device.

According to DroneShield, RfRecon is designed to provide operators with operational context about electromagnetic activity while reducing the need for multiple systems and specialized analysis.

DroneShield RfRecon Expands RF Intelligence Capabilities

RfRecon builds on DroneShield’s recently introduced RfAI-3 architecture and is designed to move beyond basic spectrum data collection.

The system combines:

  • Ultra-wideband spectrum awareness
  • Precision direction finding
  • RfAI-3-powered signal intelligence
  • Integrated GNSS
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities
  • Remote ID detection
  • AIS and ADS-B detection
  • Hardware-based security

DroneShield said these capabilities allow operators to develop a more complete understanding of RF activity from a single portable platform.

New Platform Increases Processing and Spectrum Coverage

According to DroneShield, RfRecon provides several increases in hardware capability compared with previous industry-adopted solutions.

The company said the system provides:

  • Approximately six times more RF spectrum coverage
  • Four times greater processing and AI compute capability
  • 31 times more storage
  • Eight times more memory

DroneShield said the expanded hardware capabilities are intended to support current operations while providing capacity for future RF intelligence functions.

“The electromagnetic spectrum has become one of the most important sources of operational intelligence on the modern battlefield, but collecting data is no longer enough,” said Angus Bean, Chief Executive Officer of DroneShield. “The teams that gain the greatest advantage will be those that can rapidly understand what they’re seeing and confidently act on it. RfRecon reflects that shift by bringing RF intelligence directly to the tactical edge.”

RfRecon Supports Layered Counter-UAS Operations

DroneShield RfRecon is designed to operate within layered defense architectures and support RF intelligence from tactical operations through enterprise command-and-control systems.

According to the company, the platform can support:

  • Dismounted operations
  • Vehicle-mounted deployments
  • Expeditionary operations
  • Fixed-site installations

Its open architecture and support for industry-standard data transfer are designed to enable integration with existing defense and security systems.

Integration with ATAK and Command-and-Control Platforms

DroneShield said RfRecon can interoperate with systems already used by operators, including ATAK, third-party command-and-control platforms and complementary sensor technologies.

The system can also operate as part of broader counter-UAS architectures incorporating:

  • Cyber takeover capabilities
  • Kinetic defeat systems
  • Complementary sensing technologies

RfRecon can be deployed as a standalone system or integrated into larger mission architectures.

Software Roadmap Supports Future Development

According to DroneShield, RfRecon will receive continued enhancements through the company’s software development roadmap, providing customers with future improvements to its RF intelligence capabilities.

The company said DroneShield RfRecon is available immediately to qualified defense, government and security customers worldwide.

The launch expands DroneShield’s counter-UAS portfolio with a portable platform combining RF sensing, direction finding and AI-powered signal intelligence for operations across the electromagnetic environment.
