ePropelled Unveils Software-Defined Propulsion Platform for Next-Generation UAVs

ePropelled has introduced its eP Unified Architecture alongside ePLink, a new connectivity platform designed to support ePropelled software-defined propulsion systems. Unveiled at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, the platform combines electric propulsion hardware, intelligent power management and connected software into an integrated ecosystem for uncrewed air, land and sea applications.

According to the company, the launch represents a transition from component-based propulsion systems to software-defined propulsion architectures.

ePropelled Software-Defined Propulsion Integrates Hardware and Software

The eP Unified Architecture combines multiple propulsion components into a single platform, including:

  • Motors
  • Controllers
  • Starter-generators
  • Intelligent power systems
  • Connected software

According to ePropelled, the architecture enables system-level propulsion management across a range of autonomous platforms.

At the center of the platform is ePLink, an onboard hardware device that enables direct interaction with propulsion systems throughout development, manufacturing and operational use.

ePLink Enables Connected Propulsion Management

ePLink is designed to provide connectivity between embedded propulsion systems and cloud-based tools.

According to ePropelled, the platform supports:

  • Firmware updates
  • System configuration
  • Diagnostics
  • Secure data exchange

“We are moving from static hardware to propulsion systems that can evolve over time,” said Dean Marcarelli, Chief Commercial Officer of ePropelled. “With ePLink and our Unified Architecture, customers can unlock new capabilities through firmware, improve performance continuously and simplify how systems are configured, deployed and maintained.”

Platform Supports Continuous Software Updates

The company said the platform is being introduced through an early-access program while firmware, communication protocols and system integration workflows continue to be validated.

Through firmware updates delivered using ePLink and the company’s existing ePConnect software, customers will be able to access additional functionality over time, including:

  • Enhanced diagnostics
  • Performance optimization
  • Manufacturing automation integration
  • Telematics
  • Cloud-enabled analytics

According to ePropelled, the architecture also supports increasing levels of intelligence throughout the propulsion lifecycle, including configuration, operational control and predictive maintenance.

Communication Protocols Expand Interoperability

ePropelled said it is developing expanded support for CAN-based communication protocols, including:

  • DroneCAN
  • SAE J1939

The company stated that these capabilities are intended to improve interoperability with UAV, autonomous and industrial systems.

“To compete in today’s environment, propulsion systems need to be more than powerful — they need to be intelligent, connected and adaptable,” said Marcarelli. “This architecture enables exactly that, helping our customers reduce complexity, accelerate development and improve long-term system performance.”

According to ePropelled, the eP Unified Architecture is designed to help original equipment manufacturers standardize propulsion systems across multiple platforms while maintaining flexibility for different mission requirements and supporting NDAA-compliant, sovereign supply chain requirements.

The company is showcasing the eP Unified Architecture and ePLink platform, including firmware-enabled capabilities, connected diagnostics and hybrid system integration, during the Farnborough International Airshow 2026.
