Quantum Systems Group is pushing the boundaries of unmanned aircraft performance with a series of ambitious speed record attempts designed to showcase next-generation drone technology for both commercial and defense applications.
The company announced that engineers from its N3XT advanced development team have achieved an unofficial top speed of 699 km/h (434 mph) using the Apex Recordhunter, an all-electric experimental aircraft developed to explore the limits of high-speed unmanned flight. The milestone was reached during internal testing conducted on June 26, with an official world record certification attempt planned in the coming weeks.
Designed to Push the Limits of Electric Flight
The Apex Recordhunter was created as a technology demonstrator to evaluate advanced propulsion, aerodynamics, and flight control concepts that could influence future generations of high-performance unmanned aircraft.
Although the aircraft was built specifically for speed testing, Quantum Systems says technologies proven during the program are expected to transition into future interceptor drone platforms and other advanced unmanned systems currently under development.
The project represents more than a pursuit of records—it serves as a rapid engineering platform where concepts can be validated under demanding real-world conditions.
Interceptor Programs Also Target New Records
While development continues in Germany, another Quantum Systems Group company is preparing for record attempts of its own.
WIY Drones, based in Ukraine, plans to conduct official speed trials involving two of its interceptor platforms designed for modern counter-drone operations.
Among the targeted achievements are:
- STRILA Interceptor, aiming to establish the fastest speed achieved by an FPV interceptor drone carrying a 0.5-kilogram payload.
- SPYS, seeking recognition as the fastest anti-aircraft-class FPV interceptor drone.
The tests reflect the increasing emphasis on high-speed interceptor systems capable of engaging rapidly maneuvering aerial threats as drone warfare continues to evolve.
Engineering Innovation Across the Group
Quantum Systems executives say the record attempts demonstrate the engineering culture shared across the company’s expanding portfolio of unmanned technologies.
Florian Seibel, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Quantum Systems, described the initiative as another example of the organization’s commitment to developing world-class unmanned aircraft technologies across multiple operational domains.
Meanwhile, engineers from the N3XT team emphasized that the 699 km/h achievement represents only an intermediate milestone, noting that preparations are already underway for an official certification attempt with even higher performance targets.

The pursuit of speed records comes as governments and defense organizations increasingly invest in interceptor drones and autonomous systems capable of operating against faster and more sophisticated aerial threats.
Programs such as Apex Recordhunter and the interceptor developments underway at WIY Drones demonstrate how high-performance electric propulsion, lightweight airframes, and advanced flight control technologies are converging to reshape the capabilities of next-generation unmanned aircraft.
