High Lander Brings Autonomous Drone Security to Solar Farms and Critical Energy Infrastructure

High Lander, a provider of drone fleet management and Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) software, has been selected to support autonomous aerial security operations at the Ta’anakh Solar Project, one of Israel’s most significant renewable energy facilities.

The initiative is being carried out under the leadership of G1 Group, one of Israel’s largest security and technology organizations, which is responsible for managing and securing the site. Cando Drones, a leading provider of end-to-end drone solutions, serves as the operational supplier for the aerial deployment, while High Lander provides the software infrastructure enabling autonomous drone operations, real-time aerial monitoring, and coordinated airspace management.

Advancing Security for Strategic Energy Assets

As solar energy facilities continue to expand in size and importance, traditional security approaches are being challenged by the scale and complexity of these sites. The Ta’anakh project represents a growing trend toward integrating autonomous technologies into critical infrastructure protection.

Located in the southern Jezreel Valley, the Ta’anakh solar installation has an installed capacity of 150 megawatts and is expected to generate approximately 310 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to support tens of thousands of households. Ensuring continuous operation and protection of the facility has become an increasingly important priority.

The new drone-based security layer is designed to complement existing ground security operations rather than replace them. By combining autonomous aerial monitoring with physical security personnel, command centers, and tactical response teams, the project aims to create a more comprehensive and responsive security environment.

Building a Multi-Layered Security Architecture

Under the deployment model, autonomous drones become an integrated component of a broader security ecosystem.

G1 Group oversees the facility’s security infrastructure, including physical protection measures, command-and-control operations, and field response teams. Working alongside High Lander and Cando Drones, the organization will manage drone operations as part of a coordinated security strategy designed to improve situational awareness and accelerate incident response.

The aerial component allows security teams to gain immediate visual intelligence across large areas of the site, helping operators assess situations more quickly and make informed decisions when incidents occur.

Drone-in-a-Box Technology Enables Rapid Response

One of the key capabilities of the system is its ability to launch autonomous drones within seconds of an alert.

Connected to smart fencing, sensors, and automated detection systems, the drone network can respond rapidly when potential security events are identified. Once triggered, an autonomous drone can be deployed in as little as 15 seconds, providing immediate aerial visibility without waiting for ground personnel to reach the location.

This capability is particularly valuable across large-scale solar installations where covering significant distances can delay traditional response efforts.

Software at the Core of Operations

At the center of the deployment is Orion DFM, High Lander’s drone fleet management platform.

The system enables operators to plan, dispatch, monitor, and manage missions from a centralized interface. Security-focused features include:

  • Automated patrol routes
  • Continuous perimeter monitoring
  • Real-time aerial response
  • Live video sharing
  • Coordination with ground response teams
  • Automated drone “hot swaps” to support continuous operations

The platform is designed to transform drones from standalone tools into integrated security assets capable of supporting day-to-day operations and emergency response activities.

Supporting the operation is Vega UTM, High Lander’s airspace management platform, which has received approval from Israel’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAI). The system manages airspace coordination and supports Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations through a staffed flight center operated by certified drone professionals.

A Growing Role for Autonomous Security

The Ta’anakh deployment highlights a broader shift occurring across critical infrastructure sectors worldwide.

As energy facilities become more distributed and operational demands increase, organizations are exploring software-driven security solutions that can scale efficiently while providing continuous monitoring capabilities. Autonomous aerial systems are increasingly being viewed as force multipliers that enhance human security teams rather than replace them.

According to High Lander CEO and Co-Founder Alon Abelson, the project reflects growing confidence in autonomous security technologies and the need to protect critical national assets with advanced operational tools.

By combining autonomous drone fleets, BVLOS operations, centralized mission management, and integrated airspace coordination, the Ta’anakh project serves as a real-world example of how drone technology is being deployed to secure critical infrastructure at scale.

As renewable energy development continues to expand globally, projects like this may provide a blueprint for how future solar, utility, and energy facilities incorporate autonomous aerial security into their daily operations.
