DroneShield Launches SensorFusionAI for Advanced Drone Detection

DroneShield Limited proudly introduces SensorFusionAI (SFAI), a breakthrough in drone detection technology. SFAI is a sensor-agnostic, 3D data fusion engine designed for complex environments, marking a significant advancement in airspace security.

Angus Bean, DroneShield’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), emphasized the shift towards a multi-sensor approach for detecting drones or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Bean noted that this approach is especially effective for fixed-site, and in some cases, vehicle and ship systems where budgets and space permit. The power lies in combining multiple sensor modalities, such as radiofrequency, radar, acoustics, and cameras, either deployed within a single node or across multiple nodes.

However, Bean pointed out that the success of the multi-sensor approach hinges on the presence of an intelligent software engine to fuse the sensor outputs into meaningful data. Without this crucial component, adding more sensors can lead to information overload without clear management.

DroneShield has risen to this challenge by developing a true AI-based sensor fusion engine, initially integrated into its DroneSentry-C2 command-and-control system. This engine accommodates all common drone detection modalities, including radiofrequency, radar, acoustics, and cameras.

The separation of SFAI from the DroneSentry-C2 system allows third-party C2 manufacturers, including major industry players, to integrate SFAI into their C2 systems. This integration can be achieved through a subscription-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, effectively enhancing system performance.

Oleg Vornik, CEO of DroneShield, elaborated on the company’s strategy to be a comprehensive supplier of Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) solutions or a subcontractor, depending on customer preferences. Vornik highlighted that many customers have existing relationships or specific requirements, making third-party C2 suppliers a preferred choice. Offering SFAI to such suppliers helps DroneShield expand its market share and monetize its developed intellectual property.
