Archer and Abu Dhabi Investment Office to Introduce All-Electric Air Taxi Service in the UAE

Archer Aviation Inc., a leading innovator in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has announced a groundbreaking agreement with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO). Their collaborative endeavor aims to establish Abu Dhabi as Archer’s first international launch partner, with plans to commence air taxi operations in the city in 2026. As part of this strategic partnership, ADIO will provide support to Archer in establishing its initial international headquarters and manufacturing facilities within Abu Dhabi’s Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry (SAVI) Cluster, fostering innovation and sustainability in the region.

During a signing ceremony, Archer and ADIO, alongside other influential aviation industry participants, such as Falcon Aviation and GAL-AMMROC, pledged their commitment to this strategic initiative. Archer is currently in discussions with additional industry stakeholders, with plans to announce further Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) at the Dubai Air Show from November 13-17 and the Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF) in Dubai the following week.

Archer plans to collaborate with its global manufacturing partner, Stellantis, and local partners in the UAE to enhance its aircraft manufacturing capabilities and establish a Center of Excellence in Abu Dhabi. The Center will focus on developing and implementing next-generation aviation technologies.

The Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, expressed the UAE’s intent to approve Archer’s air taxi operations as soon as they receive certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States.

The Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, His Excellency Badr Al-Olama, emphasized the positive impact of electric aviation on the UAE, bringing foreign direct investment and job opportunities to the region while addressing congestion and emissions.

To date, Archer has secured over $1.1 billion in funding, with notable investments from Mubadala Capital, United Airlines, Stellantis, and Boeing. Archer Aviation’s Founder and CEO, Adam Goldstein, expressed excitement about launching their first international market in the UAE, highlighting the collaboration with ADIO and the Department of Economic Development to facilitate manufacturing and operational activities for their air taxis.

Meera Al Suwaidi, Head of Value Creation at Mubadala Investment Company, looks forward to the debut of Archer’s Midnight aircraft at the Dubai Air Show and further discussions on expanding their collaboration.

Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, expressed enthusiasm about working with Archer to establish high-volume manufacturing facilities for the Midnight aircraft, noting the significant potential for urban air mobility in the Middle East.

Archer’s expansion in the UAE involves partnerships with industry leaders such as Falcon Aviation, which will operate their air taxis in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and GAL-AMMROC, offering maintenance, repair, and overhaul support for Archer’s eVTOL aircraft.

Archer’s vision is to revolutionize urban travel, replacing time-consuming 60-90 minute commutes with 10-20 minute electric air taxi flights that are safe, sustainable, low-noise, and cost-competitive with ground transportation. The piloted four-passenger Midnight aircraft is designed to facilitate rapid back-to-back flights with minimal charge time between missions.
