Shield AI Teams Up with Sentient Vision Systems to Provide AI-Enabled Wide Area Motion Imagery Capability

Shield AI, a pioneering American defense technology company specializing in advanced AI solutions, and Sentient Vision Systems, an Australian leader in AI-enabled wide area search, have joined forces in a strategic collaboration. This partnership aims to provide a comprehensive wide area motion imagery (WAMI) solution to customers such as the Department of Defense (DoD), Australian Defense Forces (ADF), and international entities.

The collaborative effort involves the development and integration of a ViDAR-enabled wide-area search capability onto Shield AI’s V-BAT unmanned aircraft. This integration will empower Shield AI’s V-BAT to intelligently identify, track, and respond to targets during dynamic missions. The operational deployment of this enhanced capability on V-BAT is planned for the coming year.

Brandon Tseng, Shield AI’s President, Co-founder, and former U.S. Navy SEAL, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This work with our Australian partner, Sentient, is a unique opportunity to fuse the innovation prowess of two companies from allied countries on opposite sides of the world. Together, we are shaping the future of defense technology.”

Sentient’s ViDAR AI system leverages Electro-Optic or Infrared (EO/IR) sensors to detect and classify targets within the imagery stream that might be imperceptible to human operators or conventional radar systems. This integration enhances V-BAT’s capability to successfully execute complex missions, thus contributing to a heightened level of threat deterrence and bolstering international security.

Mark Palmer, Sentient’s Chief Technology Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “Sentient is excited and proud to be working with Shield AI on this truly breakthrough solution. We look forward to combining the AI expertise and operational understanding of our two great teams to deliver superior ISR capabilities for today’s rapidly changing defense and security environment.”
